Featured Placement for Fall 2026
The student volunteer will participate in the process of creating a public art exhibition on display in the historical Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, aka “The Domes”. This call is for a student artist to directly assist the Exhibit Designer in developing conceptual ideas on the show themes and creating artwork for each show out of a multitude of materials. The final works will be installed in the exhibition space, consisting of a 250 sq ft sand bed with living plants growing around the final artistic installations. This opportunity is reserved for visual art students in or near Milwaukee County with no limits related to age, sex, or nationality. Entrants shall be knowledgeable in one or more of the following artistic areas of focus:
1. Painting/Illustration
2. Sculpture and installation
3. Scenic and Prop Design
A volunteer will be asked to devote at least 3 hours each week to assisting in creating various types of artworks. Tasks can range from: researching topics and developing theme concepts, various graphic design work, a variety of sculpture building techniques, painting, installing, maintaining props, and organizing materials, etc. The volunteer should be ready to take instructions and work independently on a task. Projects are paced to move quickly, so the volunteer will need to be able to work well at a fast pace. Ideally, the volunteer would have a keen eye for details and aim for clean execution of finishing work.

● The Exhibit Designer and the student will initially meet for one hour to orient the student to the environment & expectations, as well as determine more specifics regarding current art projects.
● Each week, the student will check in to arrange tasks for that week as well as updating the progress of their project. Note: If you plan to complete a project digitally, you will need to bring a computer/tablet with you to the Domes.

Note: This position is limited to one volunteer, please have a backup option in case it is already filled. All volunteers are required to complete a CCAP (check on civil & criminal records.)
Scheduling:
a weekly 3-hour volunteer shift onsite on the same weekday (timing is flexible between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm)
