The zip codes where we live and work shouldn’t determine the trajectory of our lives. Generations of policies, however, have created unequal starting points for all of our communities. But by working together, cultivating fertile ground in our neighborhoods – with tools like housing development, economic development and grassroots leadership development – we can ensure that everyone has access to the things we all need to thrive.
VIA Community Development Corporation (VIA CDC) acts like a puzzle-master, putting together the puzzle pieces for a great quality of life – pieces like a healthy built environment, equitable economic opportunity and grassroots community leaders. Together we grow stronger & healthier Milwaukee neighborhoods by nourishing wellbeing and cultivating community in our neighborhoods.
We have two short-term volunteer opportunities:
Silver City Festival:
EVENT TITLE: Silver City Fest- VIA's 30 year anniversary
EVENT DATE: Sept 6, 2025 12-5pm
DESCRIPTION OF VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES: VIA CDC invites you to be a volunteer at this year's Silver City Fest on Saturday, September 6th 2025 from 12:00PM - 5PM in the Silver City Neighborhood. Located along West National Avenue between South 32rd Street and South 35th Street, this fun festival celebrates the cultural diversity of the Silver City neighborhood through food, the arts, and music!
Ways in which volunteers support Silver City Fest can look like ensuring our musical acts have access to water, ensuring the festival grounds remain clean by using a garbage picker to collect trash or empty trash cans, and helping our vendors load and unload their products. Volunteer shifts are typically scheduled as follows:
Shift 1: 9-12PM
Shift 2: 1-4PM
Shift 3: 4-6PM
. All volunteers who support for 4hrs or more, will receive a $15 food stipend for a meal.

EVENT TITLE: VIA CDC's Spooktacular
EVENT DATE: Oct. 18th, 2025 4-8PM
DESCRIPTION OF VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES: Walk, Connect, & Create! Come celebrate the spooky season with us! Invite your family and friends to enjoy some hands-on activities, trick-or-treating with local resources, and enter our annual costume contest. We'll have snacks and local food trucks present.
Shift 1: 4-6:00PM: Event Support (General Sign-in/Costume Contest Sign-in/Creative Stations)
Shift 2: 6-8:00PM: Event Support/Breakdown (Movie Snack Station/Clean-up/Load VIA Vehicles)
